Sasken Communications Technologies andTATA Autocomp Systems Ltd have formed a joint venture in the area of automotive electronics on 24 January 07, to be known as TACO Sasken Automotive Electronics (TSAE). To start with the joint venture will focus on automotive electronic products in the areas of telematics, infotainment and occupant convenience. TSAE will later design, develop and market electronic products for the automotive markets both for OEM as well as the aftermarket. The development centre will be based out of Bangalore, India.

TACO has signed a new joint venture, TACO MobiApps Telematics Ltd, with MobiApps Holdings Pvt Ltd, Singapore, for the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS).

Based out of Pune, the JV will introduce electronics into TACO's product portfolio and be the first predominantly retail market facing venture of the company. It is expected to be functional by early 2005.

The business is based on installing GPS (Global Positioning System) and GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) based hardware on vehicles, which will enable users to track their fleet, improve efficiency and reduce costs by having real time information (and reports) about their vehicle position, speeds, stoppages, detours, ETA, etc available to them at their PC desktops and on their mobile phones.

The JV will market the hardware, as well as provide continuous support by running an Internet-based service on charge basis, which users will need to subscribe to for using the installed equipment. The business will therefore encompass electronic hardware, software, Internet applications and GSM / CDMA communication channels.
